December New Restaurant: Earl’s Court Road
Our latest restaurant opened at Earl’s Court Road on Friday 3rd December. Despite its aristocratic nomenclature, Earl’s Court has a reputation for being, well, a bit grotty. It’s not packed full of great restaurants, so we’re hoping to change that with something that’s been done properly.
We’ve taken over the old Dino’s site near the tube station. In its heyday, admittedly a while back, Dino’s was a mini-chain with a strong presence locally. They had restaurants here, on Gloucester Road and by South Kensington tube station (the last one is still operating). I remember my Mum taking me there for chicken noodle soup after school when I was 7, and the menu hasn’t changed much since then. Opinion on Dino’s demise is divided, but after 50 years it was (is?) indisputably part of the landscape, so we’ve retained part of the feel of the old place and given it a twist. With luck and good judgment perhaps we can thrive here for the next 50 years. Come along and help us drink to that.
November Movember at Byron
Lots of charitable fund-raising, though well-meaning, can appear a bit worthy and boring. We were attracted to Movember because it aims to raise money for prostate cancer through moustaches not marathons. And it only lasts a month.
Our three- pronged attack to raise as much money as possible included:
— Donating 50p from each sale of our special hamburger (Mighty Mo).
— Rewarding customers who signed up to Movember and raised £25 with a free hamburger every day during the month.
— Encouraging our teams to grow their own moustaches and create their own fund-raising plans, including donating tips, charity football matches, and stand-up comedy routines.
Through all of the above, and more, we raised £20,000 for Movember, proof that you really can raise money and have some fun at the same time. A big thank you to all those who donated, and a special mention to James, our butcher, for his outstanding support.
